Cupra is getting busy refreshing its model range and the latest model to go under the knife is the Golf-sized, all-electric Born hatchback.
With the all-new Terramar SUV, Raval supermini and Tavascan SUV coming, plus the facelifted Leon and Formentor models, Cupra is making sure the Born won’t be left by the wayside with a suite of updates inside and out.
Cupra only launched the Born in 2021 so this upgrade is coming fairly early on in the model’s lifespan. Our latest images give us our best look yet as Cupra once again looks to take on the likes of the Citroen e-C4, Nissan Leaf and it’s sister car, the Volkswagen ID.3.
Coincidentally, the Volkswagen ID.3 has just received its own update. VW gave the ID.3 a few mild design tweaks and we expect the same for the Born. There’s camouflage at the front of this test car, suggesting a few changes – although the existing headlights remain. Some new air intakes have appeared at the side of the front bumper. This is most likely to improve the aerodynamic efficiency to extend the range beyond its current 259-mile maximum.
If the revised ID.3 is anything to go by, the Born will retain its 12-inch infotainment screen on the dash with a 5.3-inch driver’s display. Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carlay will feature and we expect an update for the route planner to schedule charging stops more effectively on longer journeys. A new 12.9-inch central screen could find its way into the Born from 2024 – when it becomes available on the ID.3.
The Born was available with a 58kWh or a 77kWh battery, although currently only the smaller battery unit is offered. The ID.3 comes with the two options so we expect the larger 77kWh battery to return with this facelift. We don’t expect too much difference in terms of range with a maximum of around 264 miles.
